Sultan Al Lail is the only genuinely fresh fragrance of the range: an aromatic woody with no sweet note at all.
— The opening is bright and bitter: juniper berries, blood orange and Sicilian lemon. The juniper berries bring a resinous, slightly peppery bitterness that is a complete change from the usual citrus opening.
— The heart is herbal: pepper, clary sage, lavender and geranium. Clary sage has that smell of dry grass warmed by the sun, and with the lavender it gives a frankly Provençal heart.
— The base is dry and mineral: vetiver, cedar and patchouli. No vanilla, no amber — that is rare in oriental perfumery, and it is what makes this fragrance different from everything else in the range.
A spring and summer fragrance, for daytime, and the only one in the Al Wataniah selection you can wear at the office in the middle of July. Two to three sprays.

Eqaab is the most gourmand of the Al Wataniah masculines, and the one that lasts best.
— The opening is frankly spiced: cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom over a base of bergamot. It is warm from the first second; there is no fresh phase.
— The heart is the real subject: date and praline, with tuberose and mahonia. The date is a typically Middle Eastern note, sweet and a little dry, and the praline gives it an unapologetic confectionery side. That is what makes this fragrance recognisable among a thousand.
— The base is rich and resinous: vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, ambroxan, myrrh and agarwood. Benzoin and myrrh are two resins used since antiquity; they bring that balsamic depth that makes the fragrance last for hours.
An autumn and winter fragrance, for the evening. To be honest: it is sweet and spiced, so it will not please everyone — anyone looking for clean or fresh will find nothing here. But at this price, that richness of composition is rare. Two sprays are enough.

Rose Mystery Intense is the simplest fragrance of the range, and that is its strength: three noble materials, nothing else.
— The opening is bright: pink pepper, bergamot and hedione. Hedione is a perfumery molecule that smells of fresh jasmine and of air — you do not notice it, it makes everything else clearer and wider. It is one of the most used ingredients in modern perfumery.
— The heart is built entirely on rose, and not just any: Bulgarian rose and Turkish rose together, with Egyptian jasmine. These are the three most prestigious flowers in perfumery. The Bulgarian is honeyed and deep, the Turkish fresher and more lemony — the two together give a complete rose.
— The base is minimal and warm: Madagascar vanilla and amber. Just enough to set the rose down and make it last.
A modern rose, which carries from daytime into the evening and works all year. It is listed as unisex and it really is: built this way, with no added sugar, it leans neither way. Two sprays.
