Nyla Suede is the most interesting of the range: it starts like a dessert and ends like a leather fragrance.

— The opening is frankly gourmand: coconut, praline and caramel. It is creamy, sweet, and you think you are holding one more gourmand.

— The heart begins the turn: cashmere wood, milky notes, vanilla and ylang-ylang. Cashmere wood — cashmeran — has that touch of warm wool that gives relief, and the milk carries the softness of the opening further while moving it away from sugar.

— The base is the real surprise: ambergris, musk, sandalwood and leather. The leather arrives at the end of the journey and changes the register completely: what looked like confectionery becomes a grown-up fragrance, warm and a little sensual. It is what the name announced — suede.

An autumn and winter fragrance, for late day and evening. Unisex, with a slight masculine leaning because of the leather. To be honest: if you do not like gourmands, the first quarter of an hour will feel long — but it is the base that makes this fragrance, and it is worth the wait. Two sprays.

Nyla is the sunniest of the three Nylas in the catalogue — a monoï worn as a fragrance.

— The opening is tropical and juicy: a fruity accord, coconut and peach nectar. Coconut in perfumery is not the dry nut, it is the milk: creamy, lactonic, barely sweet. With the peach, you are straight into ripe fruit.

— The heart is a white flower: a floral accord led by tiare blossom. Tiare is the flower of monoï, picked in Polynesia — sunlit and creamy, close to gardenia. Set on the coconut, it gives that smell of warm skin and oil that everyone recognises without being able to name it.

— The base is powdery: sandalwood and heliotrope. Heliotrope smells of almond and face powder, not far from iris; the sandalwood, milky in its own right, carries the coconut of the opening through. Nothing ever falls back into dryness.

A spring and summer fragrance, for daytime, unisex with a clear feminine leaning. To be honest: it is very readable and it does not try to surprise you — it is a fragrance that pleases quickly, not one that tells a story. Two to three sprays.

Nyla Vani-Elle is the easiest to love of the whole Arabiyat range: a bright gourmand fruity, with no rough edges at all.

— The opening is sharp and juicy: orange, cherry and bergamot. The cherry is the note that makes it immediately recognisable — pulpy, lightly tart, it sets the tone from the first second.

— The heart tips towards dessert: jasmine, caramel and pear. The pear rounds off the caramel and keeps it from turning heavy, the jasmine brings just enough floral that it is not only confectionery.

— The base is soft and warm: vanilla, amber and musk. Simple, well measured, and it is what makes it last on the skin at the end of the day.

An everyday fragrance, good all year, and genuinely unisex — caramel and cherry lean neither way. The kind of fragrance you can give without getting it wrong: it is liked quickly and it shocks nobody. Two to three sprays.
