Vulcan Feu is the warmest of French Avenue's Vulcan series: a woody that tropical fruits come and set alight.
— The opening is tropical and sharp: mango, ginger, lemon and red fruits. The mango gives the flesh and the sugar, the ginger brings the fire — it is the ginger that justifies the name, long before the base notes.
— The heart is soft and structuring: coumarin, jasmine and cedar. Coumarin is the smell of cut hay and almond; it rounds off the fruit and bridges across to the woods.
— The base is oriental and deep: musk, amber, oud and cypriol. Cypriol — or nagarmotha — is an Indian root, woody and lightly smoky, much used in the Middle East to reinforce oud without weighing it down.
An autumn and winter fragrance, for late day and evening, genuinely unisex. The contrast between a sunlit fruity opening and an oud base is exactly what makes it approachable: you come in through the fruit and you stay for the wood. Two sprays.

Veneno Bianco is the softest and most sunlit of the Veneno series: a luxury monoi.
— The opening pairs bergamot and neroli with a note of milk. Milk right in the top notes is rare, and it is what immediately gives that creamy, enveloping texture.
— The heart is a tropical bouquet: white flowers, tiare flower and ylang-ylang. Tiare flower is the flower of Tahitian monoi — fatty, sunlit, a little vanillic. It is the smell of a holiday, without the caricature.
— The base carries exactly that idea on: coconut, vanilla, guaiac wood and labdanum. The guaiac and the labdanum, two resinous materials, dry the coconut out and keep it from being a sun cream.
A spring and summer fragrance, for daytime, unisex with a softness that leans feminine. It is the kind of fragrance that gets you asked “what are you wearing?” on a terrace. Two to three sprays.

Vulcan Baie is the fruitiest of the series, and the most inventive: it puts aromatic herbs in the middle of a basket of red fruits.
— The opening is dark and juicy: blackcurrant and blackberry, with bergamot and already some rosemary. Rosemary in the top notes is a bold choice — it brings a dry greenness that keeps the berries from turning to syrup.
— The heart carries on in that direction: raspberry and basil, softened by lily of the valley, over an icy note. That coolness is not a gimmick: it gives the sharp, almost frosted sensation you find in red-fruit sorbets.
— The base is the fullest in the catalogue: strawberry, peach, sandalwood, incense, amber, patchouli and musk. The incense in the middle of all that fruit is the house's signature — it gives depth where a classic fruity would stop.
A mid-season fragrance, for day as well as evening, unisex. Two to three sprays.
