Baroque Rouge 540 is Maison Alhambra's historic best seller.
— The opening is floral and precious: Egyptian jasmine grandiflorum, saffron and geranium. The saffron gives that leathery-spiced, slightly metallic side, the geranium brings a touch of green rose.
— The heart is the fragrance's signature: Moroccan bitter almond and cedarwood. It is the almond that does everything — a candied almond, sweet as burnt sugar. It is what you recognise from a distance.
— The base warms without weighing it down: woody musk and ambergris. Ambergris is the note that smells of warm skin and sea air at the same time; it lightly salts the sweetness and gives the fragrance its very particular trail.
An all-season fragrance, for day as well as evening, genuinely unisex despite a “women's” label at some resellers. To be honest: it projects a great deal. One spray is plenty; two and you scent the room.

Victorioso Heroic shares its name with Victorioso but has nothing to do with it: one is marine, the other is powdery.
— The opening is soft and powdery: violet and lavender. Violet in perfumery is a powdery, lightly candied note; the lavender makes it clean and crisp.
— The heart is herbaceous: geranium, cedarwood and chamomile. Chamomile is rare in masculine perfumery — it brings a herbal-tea bitterness, hay and green apple, very restful.
— The base is creamy: tonka bean, cashmeran and sandalwood. Cashmeran is a woody-musky molecule that gives that sensation of a wool jumper; with the tonka, you get a very soft foundation.
A mid-season fragrance, for daytime, unisex, and the softest of the whole Maison Alhambra selection. It is comfortable rather than spectacular: if you are looking for a fragrance that bothers nobody, this is the one. It should also be said: it does not project much, it stays close to the skin. Three sprays.

Amberley Amoroso is the ambery leather of the range, and the most “classical perfumery” of the twelve.
— The opening is sharp and bright: pink pepper, saffron and aldehydes. Aldehydes are that soapy, sparkling note of the great fragrances of the last century — it gives an impression of luxury straight away.
— The heart is floral: rose, geranium and musk. The geranium carries the rose on in a greener, more peppery way; the whole stays sober, never sweet.
— The base is the fragrance's real subject: leather, cedarwood, white musk, labdanum, iris and amber. Labdanum is a warm, balsamic resin, and the iris brings the powdery side of the root. That is a very well built foundation for a fragrance at this price.
An autumn and winter fragrance, for the evening, unisex and elegant. Like Ombre Blue from the same range, it turns around pepper, rose and leather — the two are very alike. This one is the more powdery and the more dressed-up of the two. Two sprays.
