— The opening is frankly sweet: caramel and liquorice. The liquorice is the material to point out — it brings a black, aniseed bitterness that keeps the caramel from going flat. Without it, this would be a sweet.

— The heart is the best part: honey, jasmine, tonka bean. Perfumery honey is thick, waxy, a little animal — a rich material, not a candy note. The jasmine airs it out, the tonka puts the almond in.

— The base is short and effective: amber, musk, vanilla. Warmth, to make it last.

The freshest fragrance of the whole house, and the only frank citrus of the lot. Yuzu is the star.

— Yuzu is a Japanese citrus: more bitter than a lemon, more floral than a grapefruit, with a highly scented peel. It is an expensive, recognisable material, and putting it in the first note is a real choice. With grapefruit and mandarin, the opening is dazzling.

— The heart brings galbanum — a resin that smells of cut stem and green pepper, the greenest material in perfumery — with tropical fruits the house does not name.

— The base is airy: musk, plus ozonic notes and aldehydes. Aldehydes are that soapy, slightly metallic sparkle of the great fragrances of the 1920s; ozonic is the smell of the air after rain.

Worth knowing: the name evokes dusk, the fragrance smells of high noon. A contrast to be owned.
