Sceptre Oceana has a marine name and nothing marine about it: it is a powdery vanilla-oud.
— The opening is soft and creamy: Bourbon vanilla. Bourbon is the vanilla of Réunion, the richest and roundest — not pastry vanilla, more the scraped pod.
— The heart is resinous: benzoin. It is a resin from Laos that smells of caramel and warm wood; it is what bridges the vanilla and the wood.
— The base is the oud, laid deep beneath the sugar. Both sources also mention amber, warm spices and a powdery effect as it dries down.
A winter fragrance, for the evening, unisex, and clearly an occasion fragrance rather than an everyday one. It is opulent — that is both its interest and its limit. One to two sprays.

Amberley Amoroso is the ambery leather of the range, and the most “classical perfumery” of the twelve.
— The opening is sharp and bright: pink pepper, saffron and aldehydes. Aldehydes are that soapy, sparkling note of the great fragrances of the last century — it gives an impression of luxury straight away.
— The heart is floral: rose, geranium and musk. The geranium carries the rose on in a greener, more peppery way; the whole stays sober, never sweet.
— The base is the fragrance's real subject: leather, cedarwood, white musk, labdanum, iris and amber. Labdanum is a warm, balsamic resin, and the iris brings the powdery side of the root. That is a very well built foundation for a fragrance at this price.
An autumn and winter fragrance, for the evening, unisex and elegant. Like Ombre Blue from the same range, it turns around pepper, rose and leather — the two are very alike. This one is the more powdery and the more dressed-up of the two. Two sprays.

Jean Lowe Fraiche is the least distinctive of the selection, and its name misleads you for a second time in this house: it is not particularly fresh.
— The published pyramid puts base materials in the opening: labdanum, patchouli and sandalwood. In practice, the entrance is resinous and woody, not sparkling.
— The heart is the only fresh place in the fragrance: melon, jasmine, ginger and nutmeg. The melon brings a watery, sweet note, and the ginger relaunches it with heat. That is where the “Fraiche” of the name comes from.
— The base is sober: cedarwood and amber.
A mid-season fragrance, for daytime, unisex. It is versatile without being striking — a wardrobe fragrance, not a signature one. And above all, do not confuse it with Jean Lowe Nouveau, which is an oud-cocoa: these are two different fragrances that some resellers mix up. Three sprays.
