Purple Leather is the most assertive leather in the luxury range, and the only leather treated in a fresh rather than a dark version.

— The opening is spiced and lively: bergamot, cinnamon, cardamom.

— The heart is the subject: saffron, leather and cypress. Cypress over a leather is an unexpected choice — it is a resinous wood, green and dry, which airs the leather out instead of weighing it down. The saffron adds that metallic, spiced side that always goes well with leather.

— The base is simple and noble: sandalwood and cedarwood.

A mid-season and autumn fragrance, for day as well as evening, unisex with a masculine leaning. The leather here is that of new leather goods, supple and clean — not a saddlery.

The house says it drew on the smell of an old leather jacket, in homage to Prince's Purple Rain. Composed by Nicolas Bonneville. Released in 2019. Two to three sprays.

Oud Vibration is a French rose-oud, and that is what sets it apart: the same idea as the Gulf houses, treated with the restraint of Parisian perfumery.

— The opening is short and fruity: raspberry and cardamom. The raspberry brings the acidity that wakes you up, the cardamom the fresh spice.

— The heart is the subject: Bulgarian rose, clove and geranium. Bulgarian rose is the most honeyed and roundest of the perfumery roses. The clove bites into it, the geranium greens it — the classic rose-spice accord, very well done.

— The base is sober: agarwood (the oud) and labdanum. Two materials only, which is rare and deliberate: the rose stays legible to the end instead of being crushed by the wood.

An autumn and winter fragrance, for the evening, feminine.

It is composed by Fabrice Pellegrin, a recognised perfumer at Firmenich — a name that really exists, unlike the anonymous “master perfumers” of many brands. And Roos & Roos is a French house, founded by Chantal and Alexandra Roos, formerly known as Dear Rose. Two sprays.
